CDI Engineering Solutions is seeking a Surveyor to work in our Baton Rouge, LA office.  This is a full-time, direct hire, benefited position.

The Survey/Scan Tech is responsible for execution of Survey/scanning project.  Provides support to the project team to ensure the project’s defined goals and objectives are accomplished within the prescribed timeframe and funding parameters.  Duties shall include the field walk-down of projects to help develop man-hour estimates, help develop application of work processes designed to ensure the quality of deliverables, assist in the training of other personnel in the processes and procedures for scanning and surveying. Day travel may be required.  Home office for this person will be in Baton Rouge, LA.

Responsibilities & Accountabilities:


  • Ensure that their individual work habits and methods, as they affect personal and design safety, are addressed as part of their daily tasks.
  • Ensure that all CDI and Client safety standards are followed and all orientations and training are kept up to date.


  • Operates total station, HDS laser scanner and other surveying tools to obtain 3D point data and other measurements for structure layout and as-built surveys.
  • Selects and installs temporary or permanent ground control for surveys.
  • Documents field surveys using written notes, and digital camera.
  • Processes 3D point data.
  • Reviews field data for accuracy and completeness.
  • Interacts with multiple design disciplines to ensure scope of work is understood and completed.
  • Drives company vehicle to and from client locations.
  • Supervises rodman or other subordinate personnel assisting with survey.
  • Insures quality and safety procedures are followed at all times.
  • Maintains survey equipment and company vehicle in working order.
  • Must be able to operate total stations.
  • Must be able to visualize complex 3D relationships and to apply least squares circle and plane fits to develop a CAD model.
  • This position requires frequent travel and working in fabrication yards, plants, and/or docks.

Qualifications & Skills Required:

  • 1-5 years’ experience as instrument employee.
  • Associate’s Degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering or related discipline, and five years’ dimensional control or related surveying experience; or, equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experienced and proficient in AutoCAD
  • Regularly required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Strenuous physical effort carrying equipment/walking through rough terrain.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and use hands. The employee is regularly required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit, reach with hands and arms, and climb or balance.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain valid TWIC and other required safety certifications for industrial clients.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with Leica Total stations is preferred, but not required.
  • Experience with 3D scanning registration software is preferred, but not required.
  • Experience with Z+F Laser scanners is preferred, but not required.
