Sr Marine Engineer

Baton Rouge, LA.

Purpose:

Responsible for work force staffing, budgeting, quality control, standards development, and technical excellence within the Marine division.  Suggest, justifies and implements improvements and creative solutions for problems.

Duties and Essential Functions:

  • Oversee and supervise discipline engineering and design staff for all Marine work
  • Assist business development professionals in pursuit of marine work
  • Prepares and delivers client presentations, leads assigned proposal and capture efforts
  • Overall technical responsibility for Marine design activities
  • Create technical specifications for Marine equipment such as dock front end design, berthing analysis, mooring studies, damage and maintenance assessments
  • Conduct feasibility studies
  • Develop front end design and layout.  Create total installed cost estimates and overall project schedules based on front end design and layout.
  • Apply for permits on behalf of clients of assist clients in permit applications.  Typical permit responsibilities include US Army Corps of Engineers, Levee Districts, DOTD, and any other relevant state agencies as required by the state where work is to be performed.
  • Conduct dock upgrade studies, mooring and berthing studies, and passing ship studies
  • Conduct facility condition inspections and assessments
  • Perform technical bid tabulation analysis
  • Draft construction scope of work on marine projects
  • Overall responsibility for discipline design QA/QC, including technical discipline audits as required
  • Evaluate technical requirements on projects, and support proposal activities with internal engineering cost and AFE estimates
  • Review project scoping documents, including design basis and deliverable registry
  • Coordinate discipline design specific technical training and development, including mentoring and technical support
  • Demonstrates a continuing consciousness of safety in daily activities and implemented in work designed.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear.  The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit; climb, balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision depth perception, and ability to focus.

Working Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may periodically be required to travel to client job-sites, usually involving heavy industrial (chemical) production facilities and access all areas of the facility. Therefore, the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; and the risk of electric shock.   The noise level in work place can be loud to moderate depending on assignment.

Education:

Required: BS in Civil/Structural Engineering (or higher) from ABET accredited institution; PE license in Louisiana

Preferred: Master's degree or higher; NCEES record; PE license in other states

Experience:

Required: Louisiana PE license; marine design and permitting experience (e.g., US Army Corps Section 404, 10, and 408; Levee Districts; DOTD); TWIC card or ability to obtain TWIC card.

Preferred: 15 years field experience; related experience working in the refining/petrochemical industry(s) preferred, hydrocarbon storage and transportation. Experience as the lead engineer on medium and large marine projects.  Experience with marine design in multiple states and/or countries and on multiple water bodies.

Software: Proficiency in Risa3D structural software suite or comparable structural analysis software.  Optimoor.  Structure Point Concrete analysis software.  AutoCAD. Microsoft Office.
