Sr. Buyer

As a Senior Buyer, you will coordinate and perform Purchasing requirements for raw materials and packaging into assigned US plants and support additional Purchasing initiatives as assigned by Purchasing Manager.

Essential responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to the following:

  • Negotiate chemical raw material and packaging pricing / costs on a daily basis or as required on materials not covered by supply contracts.
  • Negotiate and manage supply contracts for assigned plants/materials.
  • Coordinate, support and solve Purchasing issues related to raw materials and packaging for assigned plant(s) and issue daily purchase orders for those materials.
  • Establish and maintain close lines of communications with assigned production plants, 3rd party toll producers, the business teams and Supply Chain regarding the procurement of materials in the desired quantities and desired delivery requirements.
  • Ensure that goods are obtained from approved sources, the goods meet existing quality and performance standards using proper purchasing practices which include ISO, Sarbanes-Oxley and Purchasing procedures compliances.
  • Work with Accounts Payable to quickly resolve problem invoice and credit issues.
  • Develop and present reports which communicate market analysis, purchasing strategy and risks to cross-functional teams.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings initiatives to better drive efficiencies.
  • Reconcile rail car order / shipment status to current production schedules and produce extended worksheet for requisitioner updates.
  • Work with internal Environmental, Health and Safety and Quality Assurance departments to track and mitigate supplier nonconformance issues.

  • Participates in Environmental, Health and Safety initiatives as set forth by the company.

Education and Work Experience Requirements:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Purchasing, Supply Chain, Business or related field with 5+ years related experience.

Special Qualifications (Training, Technical Skills, etc.):

  • Must have a level of proficiency with Internet, Email, and Microsoft programs.
  • Experience / knowledge related to a chemical purchasing and or supply chain.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel spreadsheets for reporting and analysis of data.
  • Ability to negotiate effectively.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge and experience with SAP or other ERP systems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills as well as excellent interpersonal skills are required.
