Mechanical Engineer

Job Summary:

The position will require coordination of all other Mechanical Engineers on the project, including the lead Vessel Engineer, the lead Piping Engineer, senior Mechanical Engineer for specialized rotating equipment, Energy Engineer (for Refrigeration, Thermal Treatment Units and Cooling Towers), and any other Engineers or designers assigned to the mechanical design portion of the project. The project will be a multi-phased project with a number of independent sections and construction packages. Each project section will require the creation of a FEL package, that must be communicated to an EPCm. Continued involvement and oversight in the detailed design portion of each package is expected as part of the Owners Team in partnership with the EPCm detail design team.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for FEL deliverables required to supply a quality process design package to the production design team.
  • Acts as a representative of the business overseeing EPCm's in ensuring technical accuracy in project execution in all phases, including physical progress and engineering hours reporting.
  • Developing layouts and conducting reviews to consider constructability, operability and maintainability of facility.
  • Interface with and participate on teams with manufacturing personnel, maintenance personnel, other engineering design disciplines, vendors, contractors, and suppliers as needed.
  • Analyze and make independent recommendations regarding solutions to problems with varying complexity in accordance with organization and/or project objectives and guidelines.
  • Perform field verification, field measurements, field engineering, construction support.
  • Creates technical mechanical specifications, review/approve client specifications, prepare procurement inquiry packages, technically evaluate bids and other issue order packages for equipment, coordinate review of vendor drawings/data, and supervise other mechanical engineers and designers.
  • Participates in equipment inspections and testing.
  • Develops detailed mechanical equipment installation and operation instructions.
  • Assists plants in resolving complex problems with rotating machinery that decrease plant safety issues, and increase reliability and productivity
  • Provides project deliverables and expert guidance for the design, specification, procurement, installation, startup and troubleshooting of the following classes of rotating machinery:  compressors, pumps, turbines, gear boxes, fans, blowers, and various types of process equipment.

Job Qualifications:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Prior experience with Capital Project support is required
  • 5-10 years of experience.  Plant operations as manufacturing engineer or Reliability engineer is a plus
  • Advanced knowledge of mechanical engineering related industry standards is preferred
  • Knowledge of design and computer tools is preferred
  • Professional Engineer registration is preferred.
