Responsible for management of the site and its workforce, in particular its engineering and design operations.  The principal CDI executive at the site, responsible for decisions regarding policies, goals, contracts and public relations.  Has a sense of urgency throughout the company on all business matters.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Lead the local engineering and design operations in a profitable manner within guidelines of CDI.  Responsible for the management of the Houston cost center in support of Energy, Chemicals and Infrastructure industry lines.
  • Utilize CDI’s experience, talent and reputation to the benefit of the Corporation.
  • Responsible for delivery of quality engineering, procurement, and construction management services. Provides technical oversight for these operations and ensures adherence to CDI’s procedures and quality system.
  • Conduct business in a moral, legal and ethical manner.
  • Provide a good working environment for employee growth and development, adequate incentives and recognition to reward and retain good employees.
  • Obtain an adequate return on the net working assets invested, and grow the business.
  • Set a positive example for attitude and behavior to motivate site employees.
  • Review contracts (either general services or project specific) with managers and note exceptions for review with client or review by CDI.
  • Lead local management team meetings on a regular basis while coaching and mentoring.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled meetings with CDI Corporate and CDI’s senior management, providing regular updates on Houston operations.
  • Comply with all CDI’s operating guidelines and standards


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. 

  • Substantial technical experience in the Oil/Gas/Energy/Petrochemical/Chemical industries
  • Proven ability to manage high performing engineering and design organizations consisting of 25+ contributors
  • Project management or project engineering experience on large ($10-100M) engineering, EPC/EPCM or related efforts.
  • Must be a licensed professional engineer in the state of Texas.
  • Knowledge of clients’ and competitors’ business, particularly in the local area
  • Ability to supervise the preparation of proposals and negotiate and renew contracts
  • Ability to act to accomplish the responsibilities within the established budget consistent with the philosophies and policies of CDI
  • Excellent leadership capabilities and effective communication skills
  • Outstanding planning and organizational talent skills.



Normally the candidate will be a degreed engineer with a Bachelor’s degree in engineering or engineering technology from an accredited college or university. .  A minimum of 15 years of management experience related to this industry. PMP credential desirable.  MBA desirable.
