Electrical/Instrument Engineer

Midland, MI


Required: PE license in Michigan

Preferred: 10 years, field experience, experience working in the refining/petrochemical industry(s) preferred. Experience as the lead engineer on medium and large multi-discipline projects.

Software: ETAP, SKM, Easypower, Microsoft Office Suite, Lighting calculation software, Valve sizing software


Responsible for, budgeting, quality control, standards development, and technical excellence within the Michigan Electrical department.  Suggest, justifies and implements improvements and creative solutions for problems.

Duties and Essential Functions:

  • Overall technical responsibility for electrical/instrument design activities
  • Create technical specifications for electrical equipment such as substations, switchgear, MCCs, VFDs
  • Create technical specification for instrumentation such as control valves, flowmeters, analyzers, transmitters
  • Perform technical bid tabulation analysis
  • Create and update area classification drawings per NFPA/API
  • Perform electrical system studies including load flow, coordination and arc flash
  • Draft construction scope of work on electrical projects
  • Perform area lighting studies
  • Design grounding grid systems
  • Design Control Systems
  • Assist in material takeoff of electrical projects
  • Working knowledge of the NFPA 70 (National Electric Code)
  • Overall responsibility for discipline design QA/QC, including technical discipline audits as required
  • Evaluate technical requirements on projects, and support proposal activities with internal engineering cost and AFE estimates
  • Review project scoping documents, including design basis and deliverable registry
  • Coordinate discipline design specific technical training and development, including mentoring and technical support
  • Demonstrates a continuing consciousness of safety in daily activities and implemented in work designed.


Required: BS in Electrical Engineering (or higher) from ABET accredited institution, PE license in Michigan.

Preferred: Master's degree or higher
