Project Engineer

Job Summary:

  • Project Engineer - The Project Engineer manages a wide variety of projects (typically $50k to $10MM TIC) for Refining and Chemicals Industry Client. 

Job Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

  • Provides project leadership under the direct supervision of a Project Manager or Director.
  • The Project Engineer is responsible for the execution of Capital and Expense Projects from front end development (Assess, Select & Define phases) to detailed design and construction (Execute phase) including procurement, cost control and schedule management.
  • Accountable for delivering projects safely within defined scope, budget, and schedule expectations.
  • Ability to manage several project simultaneously with competing priorities in various execution phases on a wide variety of manufacturing processes.
  • Develops project scopes in collaboration with Client Operations, Process Engineering and Discipline Representatives.
  • Develops the Project Execution Plan jointly with the Project Manager.
  • Ensures that the Project Execution Plan is followed during the life of the project.
  • Accountable for ensuring the proper technical authority approves the design including the appropriate technical authority of equipment specification and drawings.
  • Oversees engineering execution.
  • Works with Project Controls department to develop project cost estimates and schedules for each phase and for final project funding.
  • Accountable for meeting project cost and schedule requirements and providing accurate forecasting.
  • Responsible for effective scope control and change management.

Job Qualifications & Skills Required:

  • 3+ years of project engineering experience in downstream petrochemical or refining industries.
  • 10+ years of technical experience in the engineering industry.
  • PMP is a plus but not required.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a team of varied engineering and design disciplines.
  • Reasonable knowledge of construction and site issues.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • In-depth understanding of the interdependence and relationship between various disciplines required.
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering technology, codes, standards, etc.
